WHERE IS THE STUDIO LOCATED?

Altar Tattoo is a private studio located at 4B, 1304 4th street SW Calgary (4th floor above Pho Daddy.) Clients may use street parking around the shop if your appointment is under 3 hours. If you are going to be at the studio longer than 3 hours please use the paid day lot by Amaranth/ Lindt / Beayerhead at 14th avenue and 4th street SW (just kitty corner from us.) There is a cheaper Indigo lot attached to this lot as well. Do NOT park on 4th after 3:00pm or you will be towed. Please download the Park Plus pay ap for parking so you don’t have to run to your car during your session.

WHAT FORM OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?

E-Transfer or cash ONLY. Your payment must come through before you leave the studio.

WHAT IS COSMETIC TATTOOING?

Cosmetic tattooing is the process of implanting pigment beneath the surface of the skin to enhance your natural features.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM COSMETIC TATTOOING?

-Anyone looking to save time in the morning with their daily routine

-Those with alopecia or loss of hair from chemotherapy

-Those with over tweezed brows

-Those who have allergies to traditional makeup

-Those who are active and constantly sweating

-Those with unsteady hands

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING THE APPOINTMENT?

The appointment starts out with a full consultation to discuss what shape and technique will compliment you the best. Next, I pencil in the eyebrow design until we both come to an agreement on a shape. The shape is locked in with surgical marker and a topical anesthetic (5% Lidocaine) is applied for 20 minutes. The tattooing portion can take anywhere from 1 hour to 2.5 hours depending on the service and client.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

For most clients, a minimum of two sessions are required. Some clients prefer a soft look while others opt for a bolder look. At the second session, we will assess the colour retention and make adjustments as necessary. Everyone heals differently and at different rates. If your brows do not heal perfectly after the first session, do not worry! We can always go darker and add more density at your next session. Please be patient with the process!

IS COSMETIC TATTOOING SUITABLE FOR ME?

It is important to have realistic expectations when considering cosmetic tattooing.

If you have extremely oily skin, microblading is not for you. Your skins natural oils will cause the tattoo to heal powdery and the hair strokes will not be as defined.

Mature skin can sometimes heal blurry. Wrinkles in the brow area may interfere with the shape and appearance of the strokes.

Clients with less natural hair will have a two-dimensional appearance, where clients with more natural hair have a three-dimensional look.

Cosmetic Tattoos are not for you if you are:

-Pregnant or Nursing

-Diabetic

-Epilepsy

-Accutane in the past 6 months

-Undergoing Chemotherapy (consult with your doctor)

-Viral infections (diseases)

-Had botox within a 2 week period of your microblading appointment

-Had an organ transplant

-Sick with a cold or flu like virus

WHAT WILL I LOOK LIKE IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

Immediately after the procedure, your brows will appear to be darker and bolder in colour and the hair strokes will be sharply defined. Some experience redness and swelling.

WHAT ARE THE TEMPORARY SIDE EFFECTS?

Temporary side effects include but are not limited to: redness, swelling, puffiness, bruising, dry patches and tenderness. Usually these symptoms subside within 48 hours.

HOW LONG DOES PERMANENT MAKEUP LAST?

Semi-permanent makeup is permanent but fades over time. This allows you to make adjustments as trends change and you age. Fading speed depends on many factors such as lifestyle, aftercare, sun exposure, chemical peels, smoking, pigment used, iron deficiencies, and skin type. Oily skin types always fade faster than dryer skin types.

HOW WILL MY EYEBROWS LOOK WHEN THEY START FADING?

As your eyebrows start to fade, they will begin to have a softer more powdered look. To keep your eyebrows looking fresh, a touch-up is suggested every 1 - 2 years. The pigment usually stays true to colour and lightens over time; however, in some cases colors may fade to different tones. Final results can not be guaranteed as each client has a unique skin type and will break down pigment differently.

HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO GET TATTOOED?

You must be 18 years old.

CAN I GET TATTOOED IF I AM PREGNANT OR BREAST FEEDING?

No, I do not perform cosmetic tattooing on pregnant or nursing women.

WILL IT BE PAINFUL?

A highly-effective, topical anesthetic cream and gel are used for numbing before your procedure. Pain tolerance levels vary from person to person and every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable during the procedure.

WILL NATURAL HAIR BE REMOVED DURING THE PROCEDURE?

Natural brow hairs outside of the design will be removed if requested by the client.

WHEN CAN I TWEEZE, WAX OR THREAD MY EYEBROWS?

If you have a specific shape in mind, you can shape your brows 2 days before your appointment.
You must wait 2 weeks after the procedure to tweeze, wax, or thread your eyebrows.

WHEN IS IT SAFE TO TINT MY EYEBROWS?

1 week before the procedure.
1 month after the procedure.

WHEN IS IT SAFE TO GET BOTOX AND FILLERS?

It is safe to get botox and fillers two weeks prior to your scheduled appointment or wait until two weeks after your appointment.

WHAT PRODUCTS SHOULD I AVOID ON MY HEALED BROWS?

Skin creams and products containing Retin-A, AHA, Glycol acids, anti aging products, or any kind of skin peel should not be used at all times. They will cause the pigment to fade prematurely.

IS COSMETIC TATTOOING SAFE?

The procedure is performed under the strict government sanitization and sterilization standards. All pigments used are approved by the FDA for cosmetic use.

ARE YOUR NEEDLES DISPOSABLE?

Yes, we only practice with single use disposable needles and supplies. My station is thoroughly disinfected before and after each client.

WHAT IF I HAVE COSMETIC TATTOOING FROM ANOTHER STUDIO?

If you’ve had previous work done, you MUST email me photos of your brows before scheduling an appointment. Corrections/cover ups are only provided if your brows are light enough to work over. If your previous work is too dark, discolored, dense or large, tattoo removal will be highly recommended before considered. As a new client, you will pay the full first session price. Cover ups almost always require additional sessions and will be charged accordingly.
